6.1.1 VoE (Variety of Environment)
The Viable Environment Model
Variety of Environment (VoE) serves as our foundational metric. This is a direct counter to Stafford Beer's classic Viable System Model (VSM). Rather than narrowing our focus internally to ensure the survival of a "Visible System," Bumponomics intentionally scales out to target the creation of a Viable Environment Model.
An organism or organization is only as secure as the ecosystem it inhabits. VoE measures the baseline diversity, complexity, and carrying capacity of the environment surrounding the system. Before we calculate the ambition of our problems (GMP) or the efficacy of our transformations (GPPTO), we must first measure whether the environment itself possesses enough variety to absorb the transformations we output.
