Bumponomics: The Economics of Problem Transformation
1. Abstract (< 250 words)
Title: Beyond GDP: Re-imagining Economics as Problem Transformation
Our current economic operating system is critically flawed. By relying on GDP (Gross Domestic Product), we measure the volume of transactions but ignore their value to human viability. A divorce creates legal fees; a natural disaster compels reconstruction spending—both drive GDP up, yet both represent system failures. We are effectively flying the spaceship Earth with a speedometer but no navigation system.
This paper introduces Bumponomics, a new economic paradigm that re-purposes human systems towards Problem Transformation. We posit that the fundamental unit of value is not the dollar, but the Transformed Problem.
Using the PTO Process (Problems ➔ Transformations ➔ Outcomes), Bumponomics provides the "physics" for this new economy. It replaces the blind pursuit of growth with three evolutionary metrics:
- GMP (Gross Meaningful Problems): Measuring our ambition—are we allocating resources to existential threats or trivialities?
- GPO (Gross Positive Outcomes): Measuring our efficacy—did our solutions actually solve the problem without creating negative displacement?
- GIVE (Gross Increased Variety of Environment): Measuring our legacy—did we expand the "library of parts" and future evolutionary potential?
By shifting our focus from spending (GDP) to solving (GMP/GPO/GIVE), we can transition from an Economy of More to an Economy of Better.
2. Poster Design & Outline
Theme: "The Upgrade." Visuals should contrast the "Old OS" (Linear, Blind, Transaction-heavy) with the "New OS" (Circular, Directed, Evolutionary).
Section 1: The Glitch (The Old Economy)
- Headline: THE GDP FALLACY
- Concept: "We are measuring the noise, not the signal."
- Visual: A "Broken Compass" or a graph showing GDP rising while "Wellbeing/Viability" lines flatline or decline.
- Narrative: GDP counts cancer treatments and car accidents as "growth." It has a Problem Blindspot—it cannot distinguish between bad problems (disasters) and good problems (investments).
Section 2: The Patch (The New Purpose)
- Headline: ALL SYSTEMS ARE PROBLEM TRANSFORMING
- Core Thesis: The true purpose of any economy is not to generate capital, but to Transform Problems into Progress.
- The Engine: The PTO Process
- Problems (Input): The raw material of progress.
- Transformations (Action): The application of energy/strategy (The 6 Strategies: Absolve, Resolve, Dissolve, Solve, Evolve, Exploit).
- Outcomes (Output): The new reality (OOSAWID).
Section 3: The Dashboard (New Metrics)
- Headline: MEASURING WHAT MATTERS
- Replacing GDP with the Triple-G Dashboard:
- GMP (Input): Gross Meaningful Problems.
- Are we working on things that matter? Tracks the shift from trivial "LUMPS" to existential "HUMPS."
- GPO (Throughout): Gross Positive Outcomes.
- Did it work? Measures net positive vector (Transformation minus Negative Displacement).
- GIVE (Legacy): Gross Increased Variety of Environment.
- Did we evolve? Measures the increase in options, tools, and resilience (The "Library of Parts").
- GMP (Input): Gross Meaningful Problems.
Section 4: The Result (Human Impact)
- Headline: FROM SURVIVING TO THRIVING
- Metric: PDST (State of Being)
- Moving populations from Demise ➔ Survival ➔ Thriving.
- Visual: A "Heatmap" of society showing the shift in State of Being as the PTO process resolves existential BUMPS.
- Call to Action: "Upgrade the OS. Join the Problem Transforming Economy."
