1. Abstract (< 250 words)

Title: All Systems Are Problem Transforming: Introducing Bumponomics

This paper introduces Bumponomics, a transdisciplinary meta-framework that redefines the purpose of all human systems as mechanisms for Problem Transformation. Challenging traditional Systems Thinking (ST) which focuses on function and interaction, this thesis posits that a system’s architecture can only be understood by mapping the Problem System Network it was created to solve.

We define these drivers as BUMPS (Big Untamed Meaningful Problematic Situations)—high-energy phenomena emerging from the collision zones of complex systems. Current organizational models suffer from a "Problem Blindspot," focusing on outputs (products, services) rather than the underlying Problem Substrate. This leads to fragility and operational misalignment.

Bumponomics operationalizes this theory through the PTO Cycle (Problems, Transformations, Outcomes). It provides a rigorous methodology for "Problem-Solving Problem Solving," employing six transformation strategies: Absolve, Resolve, Dissolve, Solve, Evolve, and Exploit. By shifting focus from intent (POSIWID) to causal reality (OOSAWID—Outcomes Of a System Are What It Does), organizations can evolve into Problem Transforming Organizations (PTOs).

This framework is currently being operationalized via BUMPS.app, an AI-enabled tool for mapping specific "BUMPScapes." We argue that viewing organizations through this problem-centric lens offers profound insights for strategic resilience in an increasingly complex world.
