The Standing Open Challenge (Popperian Falsifiability)
A scientific ontology grows stronger only when rigorously tested and exposed to potential refutation at its boundaries.
In the tradition of Karl Popper’s criterion of falsifiability, BUMPONOMICS issues a permanent open challenge to economists, complexity theorists, systems scientists, and researchers worldwide:
The Challenge
"Can you identify any problem in nature, human history, commerce, governance, or technology that cannot be expressed as an interactive function of Places, Participants, and Problems?"
Progress (±) = f( Places, Participants, Problems )The Boundary Conditions
To refute the universality of the BUMPS formula, you must present a real-world problematic situation that satisfies all three criteria:
- Independent of Places: It exists without any physical environment, spatial boundary, ecological carrying capacity, institutional container, or contextual constraints.
- Independent of Participants: It occurs without any conscious, biological, algorithmic, or social agents experiencing, perceiving, or driving the tension.
- Independent of Problems: It involves no path-dependent friction, structural bottleneck, energetic gradient, or unmet functional requirement.
The Standing Record
To date, every human dilemma, historical transition, technological bottleneck, and ecological crisis analyzed maps completely into this fundamental triad:
- Ecological breakdown is an imbalance of Places and resource extraction.
- Institutional burnout and conflict is an unaddressed misalignment of Participants.
- Stagnation is the failure to identify and transform qualified Problems.
If an anomaly is discovered that genuinely falls outside this triad, the BUMPONOMICS framework must and will adapt. Until then, the triad remains the foundational ontological bedrock of problem transformation.
