4. BUMPONOMICS

To produce a new economic system, we do not start with abstract theories, mathematical models, or wishful manifestos.

We start by identifying the key factors—the parts—of our Situation that we can influence. We examine how they interact to create the outcomes we experience today, and how we can modify them to create different, life-affirming outcomes:

  1. 4.1 Planet (Places & Spaces): The living environment that surrounds us. It includes the air, water, soil, plants, animals, and ecosystems that support life, along with the personal, private, and public spaces where human activity unfolds.
  2. 4.2 Participants (People & Organizations): The living organisms and social bodies that populate the planet, including individuals, frontline workers, teams, enterprises, institutions, and autonomous machine agents acting across nested Scales of Organising.
  3. 4.3 Problems (When Participants and Places Interact): The dynamic friction points, breakdowns, and structural constraints that emerge whenever conscious participants interact within bounded environments.
  4. 4.4 Progress (The Engine of Transformation): The directional vector (±) produced when participants apply energy, intelligence, and collective coordination to transform problematic situations into higher systemic vitality.

(Note: Processes—the operational pathways through which participants interact with each other and with their environments—govern how problems emerge, evolve, and dissolve.)

Reclaiming Our Vital Dynamics

The legacy economic machine broke down because it abused and exploited our core environmental dynamics:

  • It treated human Focus as an extractive quarry—harvesting attention for advertising revenue, algorithmic outrage, and distraction.
  • It treated human and planetary Fuel as cheap, expendable inputs—burning human vitality and natural reserves for short-term quarterly expansion.
  • It blinded civilization to the Future—measuring progress through transaction volume (GDP) rather than carrying capacity and systemic vitality.

BUMPONOMICS begins by reclaiming and working with these four living components:

Changing the Conversation

In Bumponomics, problem transformation becomes our:

Focus

01

Problems concentrate our attention on what matters

Fuel

02

Problems mobilise our time, energy, and resources to take action

Future

03

How we transform problems determines our progress.
